Monday Talks – December 13th – 11:00am Zoom.
We are looking forward to hosting – Royal Armouries Museum for a special Zoom talk on – The Field of Cloth of Gold.
The Field of Cloth of Gold was one of the most amazing political and sporting events ever staged. The story of the event is told through the Royal Armouries collection, including items belonging to and worn by King Henry VIII, images, animation, articles and loans from institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
One of the most mysterious objects in the Royal Armouries’ collection is the ‘horned helmet’.
This bizarre headpiece was commissioned in 1511 by the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I as a gift for the young King Henry VIII.
The helmet would have been part of a full armour, worn by King Henry for court pageants.
